KNOWLEDGE

The Wild Bunch Sports Bike Club is the First Sports Bike Chapter of the Mother Chapter Wild Bunch Motorcycle Club with the headquarters in Southern Maryland. We were birthed in the Wild Bunch Family in April 4, 2011. We are a Sports Bike Chapter that has both men and women. Like our founding fathers of Wild Bunch Motorcycle club, we’re a premiere Sports Bike motorcycle brotherhood located in Oxon Hill, Maryland and although we call ourselves a 'brotherhood' we have strong sisters who are 'Full Active Members'. We are open to men and women of all races who can demonstrate a commitment of loyalty, fidelity and prudent judgment. All of our members have a genuine passion for riding with a keen emphasis on safety. We have strong ties to the community and are committed to the pursuit of charitable causes while having fun. We love to ride and live to ride. We travel, party, and associate with those who love to ride.

HISTORY OF SOUTH AFRICA

The Wild Bunch was established in 1974 by a person called Rubbish. Other founder members were people like Keith Fireman. There were obviously more members but over time they have become only a memory. The patch was designed by the late Reg Thompson.

The Wild Bunch does not belong to any one person but all patch holders who are riding members and therefore any major change and decision making is done by majority agreement by all members. The elected National President guides and directs the club and the Regional Presidents who in turn guide and direct the leaders of the relevant chapters with support from their elected committees.

The Jo burg chapter is the mother of all the chapters of The Wild Bunch and therefore the controlling body of the Wild Bunch South Africa.

When The Wild Bunch was established in 1974, biker clubs were pretty territorial and bikers in general had an excellent reputation, gangsterism was rife within the biker community. The Wild Bunch was one of these excellent clubs and as the years passed, the gangsterism seemed to take over from the love of biking and the lifestyle, for those members whose opinion differed from the general norm, biking became a way of life. It soon became monotonous for these bikers as the people grew older and bikes faster the club lost its momentum as the gangsters started become involved in criminal activities.

The patch then lay dormant for a couple of years and those members who joined for the love and the lifestyle waited for the dust to settle.

By 1997, life for a lot of bikers had become boring and a group of eager bikers from The Breeds, namely Greg Vos, Allan Kennedy, Grubby Gary, Bruce and Dizza Mills, Nick, Mike, Herby, Joker and Des, wanting to take the lifestyle further started looking for a home to suit their love for bikes and the lifestyle that comes with it, one which excluded the gangsterism which had now become the label attached to bikers. President Scotty, who led the Breeds at the time then decided to join another club and because Scotty had registered the Breeds patch decided to close the Breeds down.

The group of eager bikers left behind got together and decided to start a new club, they had a choice of starting a completely new club or picking up an old existing patch that Greg Vos rode for in 1974, 1975 and 1976, that of The Wild Bunch. Greg Vos then contacted as many of the older members of the Wild Bunch as he could stating that the wanted to start The Wild Bunch again and keep the patch as original as possible. The decision was then made to take up The Wild Bunch patch up and with the blessing of the old members that were still with us at that stage a new age dawned for The Wild Bunch.

Eric Vincent was approached on mutual consent of the founder members to take up the presidency. Eric was a diplomat and that is what was needed as some of the members still had the old gangster way of thinking and it was time for a mindset change. Eric led The Wild Bunch for three years and then was made an honorary member as his business commitments did not allow him to spend the time with the club that he would have liked to.

The Wild Bunch has turned into a family club that is run on a constitution, which is revised on an annual basis and or when required.

The Wild Bunch South Africa is currently controlled by the National President Greg Vos the Vice President Noddy Naudé and the Regional Free State President Mannetjie Jacobs. Their support comes from the infrastructure of the relevant chapters. The other regions have to date not yet accrued enough chapters to warrant the election of Regional/ Area Presidents. It is envisaged that in time this will change and each region will have a National President supporting the chapters falling within his region. As at present,

The Wild Bunch consists of the Joburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, East Rand, South Coast, Lower South Coast, Eastern Cape, Eastern Free State, Northern Free State and Goldfields chapters and continues to grow.

Joburg, the mother chapter, operates from their own clubhouse in the South of Joburg.
