SERBIAN MAFIA'S GROWING INFLUENCE? WHO ARE THE NEW PLAYERS ON THE TABLE?
Written by Joseph Calcone, interview with a organized crime expert Ben Powlson.

The Serbians? Some say they are back on a track, some say they are long gone, what do you think about that?

"Serbs? The Serbs have never been gone, they just laid low after the recent arrests and the already known disappearing of the old players, like Deki Kosovac for example and such. But right now? You can see their influence growing back, they have their hands in everything, anything from rackets of drug dealing, prostitution and illegal gambling, you name a criminal activity and they have their share in it. If you haven't been able to already see it, it's because they don't want you to, and that's how they've been operating under the radar for some time now. I have to say, they lost a lot of their share in the Los Santos' organized crime scene but they are still the guys that chop you up and put you in a meat grinder. What can I say? Old habits never go away."

And where do they operate now-a-days? Has anything changed as far of the organisation goes?

"Well, you know, they operate everywhere if you look at it in the big picture, every part of Los Santos has something to do with the Serbs, and that's something that won't go away so easy, as for the spots that they influence the most, you got Rodeo and the newly claimed Willowfield spots, they mostly serve as a grouping spots for members and just people who are connected with them. You got those two joints, the Rodeo one is a place where the old generation meets up, you got guys that don't go out of their comfort zone and make the place feel like they're in Serbia. As for the Willowfield guys? They're fucking crazy, new generation of Serbs, driven by money and respect, most of the guys are mainly second or third generation Americans and don't really care about the old timers up in Rodeo. They go by their own set of rules and codes, and nobody messes with them. You fuck with their money or make yourself a enemy to them? You'll wish they kill you straight away."

The Willowfield guys, are there any guys up there are worth mentioning? Because most of the older guys now stationed in Rodeo are already known faces.

"Guys worth mentioning? You got a few, first one I can think of is Vasilije Peslac, also know as Vaso, he's a complete psychotic maniac and moved to Los Santos not too long ago. He's the one taking care of things and making sure everything runs smoothly, as far as I know.
He separated from the guys in Rodeo because he thought their rules and

regulations were too old and just attracting too much heat, something that Vaso didn't want on him. Since that, there has been small beef between the crews, but I think the guys running the show won't let it grow bigger, it'd be bad for their money, and all in all just manpower.
Vaso, who fought at the wars in Bosnia in 1991, all the way until they ended in 1995, was just 18 years at the time. Some say that the war got to him as it did to a lot of people, making him the sick fuck he is today, he's an expert in military tactics as he climbed a lot of ranks during his military career and is also an expert in torture and getting information from war prisoners, which was a big plus on him when he met Mirza, the guy that became the "Don of Belgrade" with Vaso on his side."

"Now you got Vaso's boss, street name Cistac. The guy's a newcomer from Belgrade where he ran one of the city's biggest
crew and you can tell he did by his mentality of a leader,

Mirza Crncevic
he was the one that brought Vaso along and got the organisation many assets it didn't have before, you can say Mirza shaped the group of the Pancevacka's leftovers and organised it, taking his part in what's it today. He's the one overseeing the operations at Willowfield and nobody can cross his word or obey his order. After becoming "The Don of Belgrade" with Vaso on his side, there's a rumor that a crew of Albanian hijackers jacked one of Cistac's trucks. After finding out about the high-jacking and location of the men who did it Mirza reached out to his favorite enforcer Vaso. Cistac ordered Vaso to slaughter the residents of a small village, birth-place of the men responsible for the high-jack. If the story is true, that only confirms what are Cistac and Vaso capable of, and that they have the guts to do things a normal criminal wouldn't think of."

"There comes Vujadin Zvijer, a hawk.

Vujadin Zvijer
Zvijer is like a son to Vasilije. There's tale of him having the most responsibility around Willowfield now-a-days. With Vaso's departure? Vujadin is introduced to the right men and runs Willowfield all by himself, having Mirza supervising him. At first, it was a real struggle for him to keep things organised, but he managed to pull the strings back, with the help of Slobodan Milovanovic and Victor Dimitrijevic. Judging by rumours? He's trigger-happy. However, I don't know the guy in personal, this is what I heard."

"One of the most noticable residents of Willowfield is Slobodan Milovanovic.

That guy? He has had a big past with Serbian organized crime, going as far as being one of the top tier associates of the Sretko Rakita crew. He's been identified as one of the ring leaders along with a high reputation as being a money maker. He's brought in a ton of money for him and the crew during his active years, he's been working tight with the past generation, with names like Sretko Rakita and Milan Gavric. He's been identified as the enforcer of Willowfield and as a key role in the rise of it."

With all this said, what expectations do you have for the Serbs?

"I think they're definitely on the rise, I can see them coming back to the level of Deki Kosovac's group, maybe even higher, who knows. But what I do know, is that they're a group of guys who don't mess around and you can tell they know what they're doing, nobody dares to mess with their money and nobody gets in their way without consequences. They're a group growing power and I see them climbing back to what they were."
