Damian Tejeda was convicted of the first-degree murder of Sonia Portilla, 19. A jury also found Tejeda guilty of six counts of attempted murder of Portilla’s parents, three siblings and her 3-year-old child from a previous relationship, prosecutors said. Allegations that Tejeda used a deadly weapon and caused great bodily injury were also found true. About 11:45 p.m. on Halloween in 2013, Tejeda crashed his Cadillac Escalade into Portilla's home. Portilla, her parents, three siblings a Authorities arrived and pronounced Portilla, who was in the bedroom, dead at the scene. The crash also killed the couple’s 10-day-old baby, Naomi Portilla. Tejeda is due in court Friday for a status hearing on whether prosecutors will try him in the murder of the newborn.
