benrase Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 The Verona Shoreline Crips (VSLC) is an African-American street gang based in Verona Beach, an area on the West Side of the city of Los Santos. They have a main set known as the "Verona Mob", which formed in the mid-1990s, around the fourth decade of the Verona Shoreline Crips' history. In early 2003, there was a split between the old members and the new generation, who then formed a new group called "Infamous Verona". This set became the most famous in Verona Beach and is known as part of the fifth generation of the Verona Shoreline Crips. Ghost Town Housing Project is a complex part of the early history of the Verona Shorline Crips, located on the Verona Waterfront and allocated to low-income African-American immigrants in the early 1960s. The Housing Project was more commonly known as Verona Flats before local residents took the name "Ghost Town" to refer to their residence, The name "Ghost Town" was used by local residents and VSLC members themselves to refer to Verona, It is a slang or street nickname that reflects the exclusion, social neglect, and isolation of the black community in the region. Verona Beach used to be the only (predominantly white) area where black people were allowed to live, due to the practice of racial discrimination and redlining. Despite its proximity to expensive and touristy beaches, the area was neglected by the government and left in a state of poverty and crime. Verona Shoreline Crips are still considered an active gang. Though not as visible as in their heyday, the group remains involved in serious conflicts ranging from drug distribution to weapons smuggling to gang clashes. However, no single incident has had as much impact as the tragedy that occurred over a decade ago. In 2011, an active member of the Infamous Verona set, Dave "Big Macc" Coollin, was shot dead by the Playboy Gangster Crips (PBG), a rival gang. The shooting took place in the parking lot of Cluckin' Bell, just a few blocks from the center of VSLC territory. Coollin was shot at close range while returning to his car. He tried to fight back before collapsing on the asphalt. Since that day, residents and set members have known the location of the incident as "Slump Alley" The shooting sparked a wave of VSLC violence and became a hot topic of conversation throughout Verona Beach and the surrounding areas for months.
