Evan Valerian Posted March 21, 2025 Posted March 21, 2025 East LS Varrio Ferndale Flats 13 is a predominantly Hispanic American street gang based in the Ferndale Community Housing, a low-income neighborhood in East Los Santos. Founded in the early 1990s, the gang was originally formed by a group of young Latino seeking identity and protection, who would gather around the Ferndale Community Housing, specificly on Fame Street. Since the 2003s, they have carried the number "13" – which symbolizes the letter “M” in alphabet – as a sign of their allegiance to La eMe, and have relations to other local Sureño. Burning Bridges For years, Ferndale Flats 13 and Winter Gardens 13 operated side by side, sharing markets, controlling drug centers and its distributions, running racketeering rackets, and enforcing their existence through violence. Their alliance was strong—built on mutual respect and a shared enemy of the African-American and Norteño-affiliated gangs encroaching around their territory. But like many street gangs alliances, it was only a matter of time before greed, betrayal, and bloodshed tore them apart. The turning point came in 2015, it was the year it all came to an end, the close relationship, mutual respect, and alliance between Ferndale Flats 13 and Winter Gardens 13 ended and the two gangs headed towards a standoff. The dispute over drug profits escalated when a Winter Gardens member accidentally shot and killed a Ferndale Flats 13 member outside a liquor store on Monte Vista street. Retaliation was swift. Ferndale Flats 13 waged a relentless street war, leading to attacks, ambushes, kidnappings, and casualties on both sides for years. The once united alliance was shattered, and the East Los Santos area, specifically the streets around Ferndale Flats 13 and Winter Gardens 13, became a gang-war zone. Flateros Raised Up By the end of 2019, the Winter Gardens 13 were no more. A massive law enforcement crackdown had decimated their ranks—many were locked up on federal RICO charges, some were executed in gangland politics in prison, and others met their end on the cold asphalt of East Los Santos. Without their former rivals to feud with, the Ferndale Flats 13 remained, but not without scars. The streets whispered tales of gang-war, of brothers lost and trust broken, a reminder that in gang life, alliances are temporary, but blood shed is forever. The Ferndale Flats 13 eventually rose and grew, becoming one of the largest Surenos gangs in East Los Santos after the White Fence. Ferndale Flats 13 runs their own business without any interference and any struggle from their rivals, the defunct Winter Gardens 13. They increase drug sales in East Los Santos, expand their black market, distribute cocaine, marijuana and fentanyl in the East Los Santos area. Regarding White Fence, they never had any problems at all, they were able to stand together in East Los Santos. White Fence's attitude during the conflict between Ferndale Flats 13 and Winter Gardens 13 also greatly affects the views of all Flateros, White Fence never interferes or put any pressures Ferndale Flats 13 in itheir conflict with Winter Gardens 13.
