Story:

The mission of the Jimmy Regional Gang Enforcement Team is to provide information and analysis to law enforcement agencies in Jimmy District to protect the community and suppress criminal activities related to gangs.

As of May 2017, more than 1,300 people in El Corona County have been identified as gang members or have been arrested for gang-related criminal activities. A large number were involved in illegal activities and have not been arrested. This is why the SAPD Office formed the Gang Enforcement Team (GET) in the early 1990s.

There are several different gangs that have ties to Jimmy County. The most common are gangs with Hispanic origins, such as Westside 18th Street, Hillside 12th Street, and various other Surenos gang sets.

One of the main functions of the GET is to arrest gang members who are sought for outstanding orders or those suspected of being involved in recent criminal acts. SAPD members continue to track gang members, their street names, colleagues, and locations where gang members are often found. Therefore, GET can usually identify and capture suspects quickly. This makes IET an important resource for all municipal police departments in the district. SAPD investigates and assists in investigations involving assault, attempted murder, murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, weapons violations, and crime property crime, where the perpetrators, victims or witnesses are related to gangs.

Gang activity is often not detected by the population and that makes the population more vulnerable to crime. By learning about gangs and how they operate, citizens can improve their personal safety and the safety of their children. SAPD offers free community education presentations. Please contact the Gang Enforcement Team at (503) 846-5850 for more information.
