On June 8, 2004, a baby boy named Richardson Leguizamon was born in New York City. Shortly after his birth, tragedy struck when his father was murdered by a local gang while at work. Growing up without a father was difficult for Richardson, who was commonly called Richard by friends and family. When he entered kindergarten at the age of five, he was frequently bullied because he did not have a father. The bullying continued when he entered elementary school, but Richard refused to let it break his spirit. Determined to defend himself and protect his dignity, he asked his mother to enroll him in a boxing school. His mother, who worked tirelessly to support him, agreed. Through hard training and discipline, Richard became stronger both physically and mentally. By the time he reached second grade, he was able to stand up for himself, and the bullying eventually stopped. As he grew older and entered sixth grade, he developed a dream that would guide the rest of his life to become a police officer.
 

When Richard was in the eighth grade, another devastating event changed his life forever. His mother was struck by a city bus while crossing the street and was rushed to a local hospital. Sadly, she did not survive her injuries. Losing his mother left Richard heartbroken, as she had been the only parent he had ever known. With both of his parents gone, Richard moved in with his grandparents in New York. During this difficult time, his grandfather shared stories about Richard’s father, revealing that he had once been a highly respected and successful police officer. Inspired by his father’s legacy, Richard became even more determined to pursue a career in law enforcement. He promised his grandfather that he would attend a police academy after graduating from middle school and continue the path his father had once followed.
 

After graduating from middle school, Richard achieved the goal he had set for himself years earlier by enrolling in the Los Angeles Police Academy, located in Elysian Park, Los Angeles. Although attending the academy meant leaving New York and living far away from his grandparents, he remained close to them and visited whenever possible. Richard dedicated himself to his studies and training, pushing through every challenge with determination and perseverance. Years of hard work eventually paid off when he successfully graduated from the academy. With his education complete and his lifelong dream within reach, Richard applied to join the police force, determined to serve his country, protect innocent people, and honor the memories of both his mother and his father through a life dedicated to justice.
