Gendon Wapol Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Lonnie_Brunetti Lonnie Brunetti are a man who live in the edge of a quiet harbor town, where the sea is always talking louder than the people. Since he was a child, he don’t really understand why he feel different from everyone else. In the small streets that people is knowing him, Lonnie was always carry a notebook full of sketches and half-written dreams. His father tell him that real men works with their hands, not with silly drawings, but Lonnie keep drawing anyway. There is many reasons why he choose silence instead of arguments, and most of them was buried deep inside his chest. When Lonnie was seventeen, he have a dream to leave the town and become a designer in big city. The dreams was bright and loud, almost too loud for his fragile confidence. He didn’t knew anyone outside the harbor, yet he believe that somehow the world is waiting for him. His best friend, Marco, always say that Lonnie is more braver than he think, even if Lonnie feel the opposite. They spend nights on the pier, talking about futures that doesn’t seem possible. Sometimes the stars looks like small holes in the sky, and Lonnie imagine he could fall through them. But life have a strange way to twist things. When his father got sick, everything change too fast for him to react. Lonnie decide to stay, even though his heart were screaming to go. He take a job at the old boat workshop, where the smell of oil and salt mix together in heavy air. Every morning he wake up before sunrise, wondering if he is betraying himself. The responsibility feels heavier than the anchors he lift everyday. Years later, Lonnie still walks by the harbor with that same notebook, now worn and almost falling apart. The pages is filled with ideas that never became real, yet he keep them like treasure. He often think about the life he could have choose, and it make him smile and ache at once. Maybe he wasn’t the hero of a grand story, but he was a man who try his best, even when the world don’t notice. And somehow, that was enough for him.
