His entire childhood revolved around his grandfather, an aging former doctor who had served after World War II, treating victims of German attacks on oil tankers and caring for members of Mexico’s Escuadrón 201. The man was old, strict, and tired, but he believed in discipline and thinking before acting. Romo grew up learning to stay calm and to look at people as human beings first. When Romo was ten years old, his grandfather died quietly from old age. For a long time, life became unstable. Romo went through his days without any real plan. He did whatever he could to get by. Some days that meant trusting strangers just to eat or find somewhere to sleep. Every now and then someone would help, just a little, but it mattered. At some point, he came across a man who felt different from the start. The guy had a hard presence, kept his distance, and wasn’t someone you pushed or questioned. Still, he didn’t turn Romo away. He let him stay. It wasn’t about kindness or pity. He just thought about it for a second and figured it made sense. He believed the boy needed guidance before the streets shaped him completely. The house Romo was brought into was nothing special, old and worn down, but it was comfortable. The man made sure Romo went to school and stayed focused, pushing him to think ahead instead of reacting to everything around him. Romo adjusted well, he mostly kept to himself, stayed respectful, and focused on school. People saw him as reliable, not popular, and he didn’t really mind. Years later, Romo finally found out the truth. The man who raised him wasn’t just some quiet figure in the background—he was a key player in a motorcycle gang. The discovery did not scare him. If anything, it explained a lot. Romo respected the authority and structure of that world while choosing to continue his education, eventually studying Law after becoming fascinated by how arguments and legal pressure could shape outcomes just as much as violence. That balance fell apart when a violent conflict between motorcycle gangs broke out over territory. The shootout left people dead, others imprisoned, and Romo’s adoptive father sentenced to 30 years for second-degree murder. Romo shut down. He stopped showing up to class, drank heavily, and eventually dropped out, working as a stocker just to survive. From prison, his adoptive father arranged for Romo to leave New Mexico and reconnect with former associates operating under Bandit Motorcycle Club. Romo joined, worked his way in, and proved himself through consistency rather than words. Over time, he earned enough trust to become Vice President.
