Adriel strolled along the imperfect pavement on one of the dismal afternoons, lost in thought. That day, which probably one of the worst days in his life, he had just got laid off from his job in the warehouse because the company decided to downsize. Things were rough - his challenging day had no savings to show, no severance, and no food to consume all day. He felt bad, but his body, fatigued, and mind, dull and confused, were primarily the result of his hunger.

The next one was the small grill. The aroma made stale air and hunger's dull ache overwhelming. He stood transfixed watching the patrons, warmer than the food, conversing over the dishes, and sharing laughter. The ache certainly was no error. He wasn't lucky. With nothing to loose, he turned and and headed to the small grill. It was no more than a berry bush. What was really no more than a children fairy tale would now be his reality. It was a long way to bottom of the forest, Adriel thought, and tried to remind himself of the fairy tale.

He entered his old, dilapidated vehicle, heading toward the woods. The sun was beginning to set and the road became quieter the further he traveled. Upon his arrival, the forest was nearly silent, save for the wind whispering through the trees. He began his search, examining the bushes, seeking something, anything. Then, unexpectedly, a man came from behind a tree. He had a gun and a mask covering his face. He did not blink. Adriel, however, stood still with his arms raised, frozen. Adriel stumbled over a root when he turned to dash back to his car, and the gun fired. He hit the ground. Except for the soft crunching of leaves, the only indication that a man had been hungry and unlucky, the forest was silent once more.
