    On September 16, 2000, in Guadalajara, Mexico, a baby named Sergio “Checo” Espada was born. Checo grew up on his family’s vast and prosperous agave farm in the interior of Jalisco. His childhood was marked by the smell of wet earth after rain, the heat of the Mexican sun, and the sound of tractor engines. As the only son, the burden of carrying on the family legacy slowly began to weigh on his shoulders.

 

    His father, a strict and traditional man, taught him discipline and how to manage the land. However, Checo was more interested in spending time in the small farm workshop with Manuel, the loyal old mechanic. It was there that his talent was revealed. Checo could disassemble old tractor engines and repair broken radios before he was 12 years old. Engines were his language, not financial spreadsheets or negotiations with distributors. Checo loved speed, riding old dirt bikes around the farm’s back roads, experiencing a freedom that no boardroom or family business meeting could provide.

 

    As he entered his teens, the pressure mounted. His father began taking him to business meetings, teaching him about exporting, and planning his future as a major in Agribusiness Management. Checo felt like he was being forced into a perfect, yet very narrow and stuffy box. His rebellion began quietly. Checo and his friends would modify their old cars and race illegally on deserted roads at night. That's where the nickname "Checo" stuck, inspired by his idol in the racing world. Behind the glamour, Checo sought adrenaline and his own identity.

 

    This culminated in a major argument with his father after Checo was caught participating in illegal races and crashing his modified car. After a minor disagreement with his father, Checo decided to leave. With his own savings and a little help from his understanding mother, Checo bought a one-way ticket to San Andreas. Los Santos, the city Checo had seen in movies and video games, seemed like a blank canvas for a new life.
