Their mom was a single mother doing her best with but always stuck on low class economy. Esteban came first just five minutes earlier so she gave him the name from Saint Esteban, hoping it would lead him to a good religious person. But Esteban didn’t grow up believing in religion or miracles. And Jaime was more than a brother, he was his shadow. The two of them were always side by side, even when life pushed them toward the edge, through thick and thin they always got each others back, front, and side. Their world shatterd the day they found their mom lying cold on the floor of their home gone before they could say their last goodbye. She’d had a stroke while they were at school. After the funeral, they dropped out. There was no one left to tell them to keep going, and no money to make it worth it. They started looking for any way to earn, and the streets had one answer, drugs and arms smuggling. Word was that a man called El Fantasma or “The Ghost” was looking for smugglers. Esteban went straight to him and walked out with a job, smuggle 60 kilos of drugs to Miami by boat. He called Jaime, who didn’t even hesitate. “I got you” and he said. “But this life? It catches up.” They made the trip and survived. From then on, they were locked in. For eleven years, the Gaztambide brothers worked for El Fantasma running drugs, making drops, surviving shoot outs, and learning how far they were willing to go for each other. They got caught once, spent a night in jail, but El Fantasma had connections. They were bailed out by him. After a while. That changed, the day a drop went bad. Esteban got shot. They barely escaped. And something about that close call broke through the numbness, the Gaztambide brothers asked to retire and their wish was fullfiled. They didn’t talk much after that, they didn’t need to, on May 14th, 2025, they left it all behind. No more smuggling, no more drops, no more shoot outs. They moved to Los Santos, chasing a more quiet life, hoping they could start over without looking over their shoulders and looking back in anger. Hoping to leave their dark past behind and start a new life a clean slate like a blank canvas in a city full of opportunity, the ballad of Esteban Gaztambide starts over again. But the main question to ask is, will he ever comeback to the dark world that ruin his life?
