His father, Joseph Grassano, was a former member of the Jubiro Crime Family, a prominent criminal organization in La Cosa Nostra finest days during the 1990s. The group thrived in the chaotic aftermath of the LCN downfall, engaging in racketeering, smuggling, and black-market dealings. Joseph’s life in crime was cut short when rival factions and increased police scrutiny forced him to flee to San Andreas. In Los Santos, Michael’s father sought to start fresh, but old habits die very hard. While he tried to shield his family from crime, Joseph couldn’t resist returning to the criminal life in small ways, often consulting for low-level Italian-American criminals in Los Santos. Stories of his time in New York somehow fascinated and inspired his own son, Michael, planting a seed of admiration for the criminal underworld and its codes of loyalty and respect. Michael grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Los Santos, caught between two worlds. His Los Santos peers saw him like a foreigner, while his family clung to the Eastern San Andreas custom. His mother, a hard-working nurse, insisted he pursue a legitimate career, but Joseph’s tales and reputation among the wiseguys shaped Michael’s imagination. His father’s mantra, “The strong survive, the loyal thrive,” became the foundation of his worldview. At his 18, Michael’s father passed away due to a sudden heart attack. Among Joseph’s possessions, Michael discovered a faded photo of Jubiro Crime Family members and an old iconic Colt M1911 pistol. After several aimless years working low-wage jobs, Michael began frequenting Rodeo, where he crossed paths with some Italian-American guy hanging there.
