Ten years ago, during the coal miners strike that rocked Red County, Sheldon Huckleberry and Grant Tully fell out in a bitter betrayal. Grant, desperate and afraid, betrayed the workers by leaking their plans to the mine’s security guards and the local deputies. The subsequent ambush devastated the movement. Days later, Sheldon meted out justice the only way he knew how, shooting Grant in the chest in his own living room, as his wife screamed and young Lucas Tully watched in horror.

Lucas never forgot. As he grew older, the world forgot the incident, but Lucas remembered every detail of the night his father fell, his mother’s screams, and Sheldon’s cold stare. He waited for the right moment, working quietly, living with the burden of revenge like a second skin. Then one day, behind an old gas station on the outskirts of Montgomery, Lucas finally acted by pretending to trick Sheldon into coming to him, carrying a gun from his father’s old cabinet. As Sheldon opened the back door of the gas station from the inside, Lucas stepped out of the shadows and fired five shots at Sheldon, each a fragment of his past.

With terrifying efficiency, Lucas loaded Sheldon’s lifeless body into the back of his old pickup truck and hide the corpse from view. He drove up the winding trail to an abandoned cabin atop Blueberry’s Hill, the same place where the miners had once met in secret. While he Inside, he laid Sheldon on the dusty floor, grabs a Molotov cocktail from the trunk, and lit a match and threw it. As the flames engulfed the cabin, Lucas watched from outside as the flames twisted and roared into the night sky. In the distance, Red County slept, unaware that old wounds were finally closing in smoke and silence.
