There were no secrets or hushed conversations, just grocery bags and the usual routine. Charles picked up coffee beans, sugar, creamer, and bread for his cafe. Samantha gathered limes, tonic, and fresh fruit for her bar. They joked about the price of tomatoes, argued over the last bottle of cheap whiskey, and laughed together while waiting at the butcher’s counter. To Samantha, Charles was not always the wild rockers chasing after trouble. Sometimes, he was just the stubborn Brit who made jokes about cucumbers. To Charles, Samantha was more than the bartender who listened to everyone. She was a good friend, someone who could share a laugh with him away from all the chaos. During those quiet moments, they were simply two people picking up supplies for work. There were no gangs or danger, just easy conversation before they returned to the busy city.

Neon light on his Triumph cafe racer shook on the chrome as the rain left a sheen on it. The meeting was set up by Owney... A Russian man named Roderick, the type of person who moved silence and weapons with equal accuracy. Though business was slow and the streets were growing more hungry, Charles didn't like men who couldn't read. The headlights sliced the darkness as the car slowly made its way through the fog. Tall and unreadable, Roderick emerged. There was no need for words all that was important was conveyed through the glances between quiet threat, respect, and caution. ==========================================================================================================
