kayden Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Chapter 1: A New Face Kyrie Howell, an 18-year-old African American, had just arrived in Idlewood, carrying a shoebox he planned to sell. Times were tough, and he desperately needed money. As he wandered the unfamiliar streets, he stumbled upon a cluster of rundown apartments where groups of teenagers hung out, their laughter and chatter filling the air. Gathering his courage, Kyrie approached them to sell a pair of shoes. One of the teens decided to buy the shoes but only offered half the price Kyrie had asked for. Though disappointed, Kyrie accepted the deal. The teen handed him a number and told him to come back tomorrow. Kyrie returned home that night and tried to call the number, but it didn’t work. Determined, Kyrie showed up at the apartments the next day, hoping to find the buyer. But after hours of searching, the teen was nowhere to be found. Frustrated but undeterred, Kyrie began frequenting the area, looking for any sign of the buyer. Over the next few days, Kyrie’s constant presence didn’t go unnoticed. The local teens started to recognize him, and conversations gradually turned into friendships. What began as a desperate attempt to make a sale transformed into Kyrie finding a place among the youth of Idlewood, marking the start of his new journey in the neighborhood.
