Life in the village passed by slowly, full of the same routine of farming and taking care of animals. Nicholo’s parents were hard-working farmers struggling to make a living. Since an early age, Nicholo was used to helping him father in the field or transporting his crop to the village market. Yet, deep inside, he knew that a bigger world seemed to wait for him. The city that he had only seen on the TV screen at his neighbor’s house looked like a separate reality with its tall buildings, busy streets, and new opportunities. Nicholo’s desire to leave the village and pursue a life in the city grew stronger as he become a teenager. He was a diligent student, always on top of his class. Every book that he read, every story about successful people in the city only confirmed his determination. Thus, Nicholo seized every opportunity to learn, being short of such facilities within his reach. He was often waking up extremely early, completing his tasks in the field and then going to school. While his peers were playing in the afternoon, Nicholo was spending his time reading or thinking about the steps that would bring him closer to his dream. Finally, when he graduated from high school, Nicholo was given a chance that changed his life. A full scholarship to a university in the city. From that day on, his journey began. In the city, he faced numerous challenges – from a different culture to the fast pace of life. Yet, he never forgot the reason he had come there. Year by year, he built himself with hard work and perseverance. After graduation, Nicholo got a job in a successful firm. When he visited his village for the first time after achieving success, his family greeted him with pride. Nicholo’s journey is a testimony to the fact that a dream, though born in a humble place, can take one over the edge of a familiar world.
