Shawn 'Davis' Montana

 

 

Shawn 'Davis' Montana was born on the 4th of July, 1999, also known as the Independence Day of the United States of America. He was born to an African-American couple, Regina Davis and Franklin Montana. He had a younger sister named Lauren Montana, who died when he was 10. The family was on a trip to Malibu for the father's business meeting. In the middle of the car ride, Franklin's phone rang. It was one of his business partners that he was about to meet. Regina told Franklin to send his friend to voicemail because Franklin should be focused on driving. Due to his stubborn nature, Franklin didn't listen to Regina and answered the call. His focus was divided between conversing with his friend and operating the steering wheel. Due to his lack of focus on the road, Franklin failed to see a road crossing coyote coming. He was forced to swerve and that led the car to spin off the road and hit a tree. Franklin and Regina suffered head injuries that luckily were not too severe. Shawn got an injured elbow as a result of him using that elbow to shield his head from crashing the window. Meanwhile, Lauren struck her head right against the window. Her skull was not fully developed to survive this kind of blow so she died due to severe brain damage.

 

Until now, Shawn has yet to forgive his father for compromising his family's safety over a phone call that he considered foolish and trivial. Shawn's relationship with his sister was very tight. They would play together and tease each other. They were each other's lives. When Lauren died, Shawn felt that a part of him did too. That was why Shawn has not been the same since the accident. Shawn started to disconnect from his family, barely talking to both of his parents. Regina blamed herself for not doing more to prevent Franklin from taking the phone call that would lead to her daughter's death and son's estrangement. She secretly started taking pills to cope with her misery. She became addicted and later died of overdose. Her body was found in the bathroom. His father blamed Shawn for Regina's death, saying that Shawn's disconnection from the family that included alienation from his mother caused her mother's depression to escalate. Shawn bounced the blame back to Franklin, saying that none of this would have happened if Franklin had not been so reckless as to prioritize his friend over his family.

 

Losing his sister, beloved mother, and left only with the father who he hated, Shawn decided to run away from home. His father couldn't care less. Shawn stole the kitchen knife to protect himself out in the street. He stole a car and made it into a place to live. This marked the beginning of a new life for Shawn. He is now on his own. The next chapter of his life will be his to decide. It is scary, but a much needed start-over after the loss that he has been through. He would visit his sister's grave, that is placed next to his mother's every now and then to quench the longing.
