Miller was born destined to follow his ancestor's steps to join the army. He was born into a family with a heavy military background, his father, Lieutenant Jack H. Miller was a Gulf War veteran participating in Operation Desert Storm as a tank commander in the 37th Armored Regiment. Inspired by his father and his desire to serve the country, Miller joined the army straight out of high school. He graduated from the United States Army Armor School in Fort Moore, Georgia with a decent grade. He was trained to handle the M1 Abrams as part of the United States Base Realignment and Closure program which led him to be positioned as a gunner for the same unit his father was, the 37th Armored Regiment. It was July 7th, 2013 when his unit was assigned to assist Afghan forces in the cities of Lashkargah, Sangin, and outlying towns in the Helmand Province in Southern Afghanistan where his unit was ambushed by Taliban insurgents, his tank was struck by IED and damaged the right track, and then an RPG hits the engine deck a 4 minutes later, immobilizing the tank. He witnessed the horrors of war firsthand, but he wasn't able to distinguish between civilians and combatants they all looked the same to him. Unlike conventional army, insurgents don't wear uniforms, they look the same as civilians with only the gun they hold that distinguish them from civilians. Urban warfare was a living hell for him, every window risks an insurgent peeking and taking a shot. Miller and the tank crews had to bail out of the tank, Miller took shrapnels from a frag grenade that landed 32 feet away and hit him on his left leg. Corporal Danny Hank, the tank loader had to pull Miller away to safety at the nearby alleyway, the fights lasted for four and half hours until medevac came. It took him 4 months to recover from the injury, he received the Purple Heart medal for his injury. The battle left a scar on his life, he left the army and moved to Los Santos to make a new life, he bounced from job to job, his mechanical skills securing him positions, but the emptiness lingered.
