Derreck's mother was named Lai Yue and his father was Jaydeen Brackstone. They live on the west side of Los Santos. The father works as a taxi driver and the mother only as a housewife. As a child, Derreck Mercado was allowed to roam freely by his parents. This made Derreck very comfortable with the outside world, from him taking illegal drugs to robbing several markets in their neighborhood with friends to buy the drugs. Until the mid-2004s, the activities of Derreck and his friends were known to the FBI and local sheriffs. The FBI and the local sheriff hatched a plan to arrest Derreck Mercado and his friend. Knowing that they were being sought, Derreck decided to leave home without his parents' knowledge. After leaving home Derreck Mercado moved from the west side of Los Santos to the east side of Los Santos where the east side of Los Santos is well known for its many alleys and other crime rates. Since Derreck Mercado was from Southeast Asia, he decided with his friends from Southeast Asia to form a society to look after each other in the eastern neighborhood of Los Santos. In early 2005, Derreck Mercado decided to return to his parents because he still loved and missed them. Until when Derreck Mercado came to their house, he did not find their parents. He asked residents around his house to find the whereabouts of his parents, but local residents said that both of Derreck Mercado's parents had died of terminal tumors, hearing that Derreck Mercado was very sad. Derreck Mercado decided to return to his criminal underworld on the east side of Los Santos. Derreck Mercado still places himself in the East Of Los Santos with friends and runs businesses in the area.
