Her family comes from an upper middle class economy and Janelle has never flaunted her wealth in her age. Since attending junior high school, she has had good academic and non-academic grades, participated in the girls' basketball extracurricular and was the team captain at her school. Janelle is a girl the boys at school dream of and she's not really interested in dating, she's only focused on studying and achieving. After graduating from junior high school, she continued her education at Philadelphia high school and won many girls' basketball awards. While Janelle often wins honors from women's basketball tournaments, she is shocked by the news that her father was robbed and shot by a robber who killed her father. After the incident, Janelle's condition worsened and she stopped playing basketball. Because since childhood, Janelle was raised better by her father than her mother, Janelle was crying and upset about this case. Since her father died, Janelle's family's economic condition has declined and forced Janelle to work while studying. After graduating from high school, Janelle did not have enough money to go to college because there was no one else to make a living in her family because her mother was not working and she was getting old. Like it or not, Janelle also chose to work over college because there was not enough money for her to study. Janelle got an offer to work as a cashier at a supermarket in Philadelphia that accepts high school graduates and Janelle accepted the offer because she had no other job besides working at the supermarket as a cashier. After 2 to 3 years as a cashier at a supermarket, Janelle and her family decided to move to Los Santos.
