He is the last of 3 children, his parents are Luis Conzaguita and Maria Escudero. Cortez since childhood has lived well, because his father is a big businessman in the city. Every time a ship wants to dock or leave, it must pass by its father. Cortez has 2 brothers, the eldest brother is Fernando and the other is Hermino. When Cortez was 18 years old, when he had graduated from school, his two brothers, Fernando and Hermino, invited him to go and do business in Buenaventura. Cortez is confused about what business his two brothers are doing without his father's knowledge. It turned out that both of Cortez's brothers were members of a cartel in the city of Buenaventura. The arrival of Cortez who was brought by his brother Fernando and Hermino was not welcomed by the Cartel boss. The boss was furious at Fernando and Hermino for bringing “little kids” into their business. Fernando, who is older, tries to explain to his boss that Cortez can be trusted and will not complain to the police. On the other hand, after learning what his two brothers were doing in Buenaventura, Cortez also took secret photos of almost all the activities in the Cartel. Then he took the photos to the police. A large number of police also raided the drug production site in the Cartel. There was a shootout at that place, which caused the death of his brother Fernando and Hermino. Almost all the members of the Cartel were shot and died, the rest fled and hid from the police. Regretting his decision to complain to the police about the cartel, Cortez was frustrated and could not forgive his actions to his two brothers. He returned to Cartagena and met his parents. After telling what happened in Buenaventura, instead of getting pity for what happened to him, Cortez was kicked out of the house. He was only given a small amount of money to live on, his parents advised him never to return to Colombia. Cortez flew to Los Santos, there he found a very nice person who has now become his best friend named Azpilicueta. The two of them now work together to live in the harsh city of Los Santos.
