The words hung in the air like smoke, and that night, he packed a single suitcase and left. He didn’t take the car keys or the credit cards, just his passport, some cash, and the old leather jacket his grandfather had given him. By then, he walked for hours, the icy wind biting his face, before crashing on a friend's couch. For weeks, he couldn’t eat. I couldn't sleep. The guilt gnawed at him, but so did something else: relief as it took two years for Sergeyevich to find his footing. He moved to Warsaw, where he met Lena, a graphic designer with a laugh that could light up a room. That much was clear.

    She taught him how to cook pierogi and showed him the city’s hidden jazz clubs. At least that was the case. He started working at a nonprofit, helping refugees settle in Poland. It wasn’t glamorous, and the pay was terrible, but it felt real. That was just how it went. Then came the setback: the nonprofit lost its funding last summer, and Sergeyevich was laid off. He spent three months unemployed, living off savings and wondering if he’d made a mistake leaving his family’s wealth behind. “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this,” he told Lena one night, his voice quiet. She reached for his hand. “You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be,” she said. Now, at twenty-five, he’s working freelance, still figuring it out. His phone buzzes sometimes with calls from Natalia, but he doesn’t answer. Not yet. In the end, Sergeyevich decided to stay in the city of Los Santos to try and start a new life.
