Back when Jiwoo was still in America, he met a neighbor named Arthur Westley initially, they were just ordinary friends. The conflict that arose stemmed not from a falling-out, but from a misunderstanding. One day, Arthur returned to his parents' home only to find them lying lifeless; he was devastated by their deaths. Vowing to avenge them, he prepared to head out in search of the culprit when he spotted a note lying near his parents' bodies—a note written in Hangul (Korean script). Arthur wondered aloud, "What does this mean? I don't understand." Upon using his phone to translate the text, he discovered the message: "We forgot that we had taken your younger sibling." Enraged, Arthur set out to find his sibling.

At another time, Jiwoo packed her clothes and equipment to move abroad. Arthur came back to his apartment and saw Jiwoo packing clothes, Arthur asked Jiwoo "where are you going Jiwoo" Jiwoo replied to Arthur's words "I was assigned to work abroad" after hearing these words, Arthur helped Jiwoo pack the clothes and equipment in Kim Jiwoo's room. After he finished, he took Kim Jiwoo to the airport. Arthur didn't have any suspicions about Jiwoo because Jiwoo sounded friendly and kind.

A week after Kim Jiwoo’s departure, Arthur received a call from an unknown number; the caller claimed that Kim Jiwoo was the mastermind behind the events—specifically, the deaths of Arthur's parents and the kidnapping of his younger sibling. Initially skeptical, Arthur protested, "There’s no way Jiwoo would do something like that." However, things began to make sense when the caller asked, "Then why did Jiwoo leave the country just hours after your parents died?" Arthur pondered this and decided to track down Kim Jiwoo. In reality, however, the perpetrators were members of a South Korean criminal syndicate exacting revenge because Arthur's father owed thousands of dollars in gambling debts. Arthur set out to find Kim Jiwoo and eventually succeeded in locating him.
