Dontrell Burley was born in New York City, United States, on June 17, 2007. As a child, Dontrell lacked a mother's love, as his mother passed away on the very night he was born. Year after year, Dontrell lived alone with his father, but things did not go smoothly. His father worked so hard and was so focused on his job that he sometimes forgot to bring happiness to his son. On several occasions, Dontrell felt envious watching his neighborhood friends constantly playing with their families. Time passed until he entered his third year of high school. During a long school break, his father was assigned to work in a different city: Los Santos, San Andreas.

 

Upon hearing the news, Dontrell had no choice but to go with his father, as he had no one else to live with. A month passed since they moved into a small apartment in the Ganton area, a place where many teenagers his age were involved in a wild, unrestricted lifestyle. At first, Dontrell ignored them and focused on studying at his new school. A week after school started, Dontrell befriended a boy he had previously seen around his apartment. Because Dontrell often felt bored when left behind by his father for work, he asked his new friend to introduce him to the neighborhood.

 

Kaiman, Dontrell's new friend, showed him what life was like around their apartment complex. As Dontrell had suspected from the beginning, the teenagers in the area were already deeply involved in rebellious behavior, enjoying things that their parents forbade, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs. Initially, Kaiman influenced Dontrell to try a cigarette. Wanting to look like a bad boy, Dontrell gave it a try. Day by day, Dontrell found a sense of happiness in that environment. He was the type of kid who was not particularly aggressive or prone to showing off his strength to others; instead, he preferred to blend in and respect those around him, even newcomers. It was not uncommon for him to engage in petty theft to get extra pocket money just to buy cigarettes or drinks to keep himself happy. With his friends in that neighborhood, Dontrell felt comfortable, rather than being alone and waiting for his father's attention.
