His days don’t change much—riding through the city, dealing with whatever weather comes, and going back to a small, quiet place at the end of the day. He never really thought too far ahead about life, because for him, getting through each day without problems was already enough. But everything started to feel a little different when he met Wren Claire, a 21-year-old college student at Stanford who lives in Los Angeles and comes from a well-off family. Even with the distance, their relationship felt warm and real. Late-night video calls and small, thoughtful messages made Innes feel like he finally had someone who truly mattered. At first, the long-distance relationship felt easy and comforting. Innes was happy just being there for Wren while she went through college. He loved hearing about her classes, her friends, and all the dreams she was chasing. Watching her grow made him proud in a quiet, genuine way. But as time went on, something started to shift inside him. He began to wonder about things he had never questioned before—where is this relationship actually going? Their lives were moving in completely different directions. Wren was stepping into a future full of opportunities, while Innes felt like he was standing still, stuck in the same place with no real progress. Those thoughts got heavier when he started imagining Wren’s graduation day. He could picture her standing there, confident and accomplished, ready to move forward into a bigger world—one that might not have a place for someone like him. Meanwhile, Innes was still just a courier, with a modest background and an uncertain future. Deep down, he also knew that Wren’s parents didn’t really approve of him. They never had to say it directly—Innes could feel it. To them, he simply wasn’t the kind of person they had in mind for their daughter, and that reality quietly weighed on him.Now, the love Innes feels isn’t as simple as it used to be. He still cares about Wren deeply—maybe even more than before—but that love comes with fear. Fear that he might just be a chapter in her college life, not someone who stays in her future. Fear that one day, she’ll move forward without him. For the first time in his life, Innes realizes that just holding on isn’t enough anymore—because what he really wants isn’t just to be there for Wren, but to be someone she chooses to keep.
