He grew up surrounded by hardship, in a neighborhood where daily life was shaped by scarcity rather than opportunity. His father took whatever construction work he could find, never knowing if there would be income the following week, while his mother earned extra money sewing clothes from home. Their small house frequently suffered from power outages and limited access to clean water. From a young age, Conrado understood that honesty alone did not guarantee a better life. While many children his age focused on school or leisure, he spent his days helping at local markets, carrying heavy loads, and delivering small items just to contribute a few pesos to his family. These early struggles quietly molded him into someone reserved, resilient, and used to enduring exhaustion without protest. Adulthood did not bring immediate change. Employment opportunities in Monterrey continued to decline, and the pressure to survive only grew stronger. In his early twenties, Conrado made a difficult but decisive choice to leave Mexico and head to the United States in search of work and stability. The journey itself was filled with uncertainty and danger, offering no guarantees. Once there, reality proved harsh. He worked as a long distance truck driver, spending countless hours on the road and sleeping in confined spaces. Later, he found himself working as a fisherman, battling cold weather and rough seas, where every trip carried physical risk for minimal pay. Despite the conditions, Conrado refused to give up, knowing that failure would only mean returning to the life he had tried so hard to escape. Today, Conrado earns a living as a taxi driver. Though the job may apperear modest, it provides a sense of balance and consistency he had long been missing. Driving through the city each day, he listens to passengers share fragments of their lives, reminding him that struggle exists in many forms. While he has not achieved complete security, Conrado feels more grounded than before. He still carries memories of hardship, a quiet longing for his homeland, and a simple hope for a dignified future. For Conrado Leyda, success is not defined by wealth, but by perseverance by continuing forward even when life repeatedly tests his strength.
