    Santiago "Malo" Matarello felt empty after working the night shift. After returning his taxi to the El Transporters parking lot, Malo found a small rectangular package among the gas receipts and placed it on the seat of his car. The package was unmarked, with no sender's name, just "Malo" written in pen. His curiosity overcame his fatigue. In the dark garage, with only dim fluorescent lighting to illuminate it, Malo opened the package. Inside was a silver pocket watch, an old model he recognized quite well. It was his father's watch, the only valuable thing his father had ever owned and something he had always kept from Malo.

    In the clasp was a crumpled piece of paper. The message inside was short and to the point: "He finally gave it to me. We need to talk. Wait in your car." Malo's heart was pounding. It might be a trap, but Malo was so desperate to know how the watch ended up in Los Santos, it kept him frozen in his seat. Malo sat and clutched the cold watch tightly, his thoughts drifting back to Argentina, to his remote childhood home, and to his estranged father.

    Malo didn't notice the moving shadows outside, nor did he see or hear the silent footsteps approaching his car from behind. A strong, gloved hand covered his mouth from behind, preventing him from screaming. A thin needle pierced his neck, injecting a cold liquid that quickly spread through his veins. Malo's eyes widened and he shivered in that tight grip, then died. The world spun around him and faded to darkness. The silver watch fell from his grasp, landed on the floor of the car, and stopped precisely at 3:00 a.m., the moment it all ended. Santiago Matarello lay lifeless in his driver's seat, his face pale but calm, with no signs of violence. There had been no robbery, no struggle. An illegal immigrant, a child looking for work, and a taxi driver whose fates had all ended on the streets of Los Santos.
