His father competed at the national level, and his mother officiated at youth games as if it were her calling. There is a ball in every picture from his youth. He didn't merely love the game he lived it. Dawn to dusk, dawn to darkness it was basketball. No holidays. Other kids were watching cartoons on TV afternoons, and Pipen was watching Kobe highlight reels in the mornings. He wasn't trying to be good he was trying to be great. At 18 years old, he was already called a local legend. People around him were saying, "If anyone from around here is gonna make it to the NBA, it's Pipen." He knew it. He had to. But when he finally got his chance, the world fell apart. The guys there were not only good better, infinitely better. Bigger, faster, smoother. Pipen tried his best, but it was not enough. He did not make the cut. No NBA. No do-over. No voice. That silence killed him. All those years of toil, all that sweat and tears, all that imagination all for nothing. One night, he just. snapped. His parents tried to calm him down, but he wasn't listening anymore. The anger, the worry, the defeat it all just poured out. All at once, everything changed. He murdered them. And then all of a sudden, boom, things snapped back into reality. What he'd done, what he'd turned into it was too much. So he took off. He left everything behind and lost himself in Los Santos. New name, new life, no agenda. Now he's alone. Does odd jobs here and there, plays solo street ball, occasionally late at night. Says he's done pursuing dreams, but when he's on the court, you can bet he's still pursuing something.
