He was raised in a modest household with his father, Bryson Coolio, a city bus driver, and his mother, Angelina Lateefah, a homemaker. It was never high end, but it was stable enough to afford essentials. Shakeem was reserved and introverted from the time he was a child. He preferred to observe instead of participating and kept to himself in both social and school environments. His reticence made it difficult for him to relate to others until he befriended Khaheed Dahmron, a like minded classmate who was his closest friend during middle school . The relationship lasted several years and provided Shakeem with a sense of belonging he had never previously experienced. That friendship ended when Khaheed's family relocated due to financial problems. Shakeem went back to his isolated life after Khaheed departed. His options were few after high school. His family was too poor to send him to college, and jobs were scarce. He did some temp work washing dishes, stocking shelves, and occasionally helping his father clean buses, but nothing with future possibilities. One day, he read about the city of Los Santos, a city renowned for offering risk and opportunity. Hoping to start fresh, Shakeem decided to head there by himself. Shakeem now lives in Los Santos at age 25, unemployed but hopeful. To eat there, he has to work side jobs to get the food he wants. Despite not yet getting a good job, he is positive about building a better future. The city is unstable and often ruthless, but Shakeem sees it as a chance to redefine his fate. He no longer waits to be saved by someone else instead, he focuses on building his own way, learning from every challenge, and slowly creating a life that is entirely his own.
