Hangure (半グレ, han-gure) refers to a new generation of organized crime groups in Japan that operate in a "gray zone" between ordinary citizens and traditional Yakuza syndicates. Emerging primarily in the 2000s, these groups consist of criminals who are not officially registered as bōryokudan (Yakuza) but engage in similar, often more brutal, illicit activities.
